This year, Matt Ryan has taken on a new role and is here to assist Alfred State College (ASC) students whenever they might need him. That sounds like a tall order and his areas for providing support and education are far reaching. Ryan, the college’s Title IX Coordinator and Chief Diversity Officer, is a resource to all students when they may be most in need of help.

Ryan has been at Alfred State since 2003 and has served in his current position for the past year. He started his career at ASC as a resident director, was the director of student activities and engagement on the Wellsville campus, and most recently served as the senior director of residential life.

As Title IX Coordinator, Ryan’s primary duty is to assist students with problems when it comes to how to get resources related to sexual misconduct or sexual violence. He also is involved in trainings residential services staff, student-athletes, and students involved in Greek life.

“Students can come to my office for a number of resources. Whether that is a connection to health and wellness services, counseling, university police, residential services, or conduct. If a student has questions regarding sexual misconduct or sexual violence, I can really work with them to try to find out what's the best solution for them. Sometimes it is a police report, sometimes it is conduct, and sometimes it's connecting to resources on campus.”

Ryan’s office wants to engage with students in proactive measures. Every semester bystander intervention and safe zone training are held on campus.
