The New York State STEM Education Collaborative is holding its third STEM Summer Institute at Alfred State SUNY College of Technology July 13 to 15, 2014. The theme is “STEM: The Future is Now, Increasing Student Achievement through Integration and Innovation.” The institute is designed for engaging kindergarten through grade 12 teachers and administrators.
“Holding the STEM Summer Institute at Alfred State is a great opportunity for the college to showcase its technology-focused educational programs, high-tech facilities, and expert faculty,” said Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs Craig Clark. “We are thrilled to welcome so many STEM professionals, teachers, and industry leaders to our campus and to our community.”
The STEM institute provides attendees with 12 professional development hours spread out over eight sessions via a wide array of presentations and keynote addresses. College professors and teacher experts will demonstrate how the four STEM areas can be logically and effectively integrated into each subject area. Keynote and banquet speakers include Johanna Dunvan Poiter, senior vice chancellor for community colleges and the Education Pipeline for SUNY; Dr. William Gerberich, a world-renowned researcher in nanotechnology, micromechanics, and materials science from the University of Minnesota; and Dr. Anthony Fasano, executive director of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers.
