Mercyhurst North East connected on four of six foul shots in the final two minutes as they broke a 60-60 tie to earn a 64-60 win over Alfred State on Saturday.  The contest featured five ties and seven lead changes.

The blue & gold raced out of the blocks early jumping out to a 11-0 lead before the Saints got going.  Alfred State led 30-27 at the break.  The Saints came out in the 2nd half and grabbed a four-point lead but the Pioneers answered with a run of their own and built a 50-43 lead with 9:34 remaining in the contest.  MNE battled back and tied it at 58-58 and 60-60.  Three turnovers the final two minutes cost the Lady Pioneers.

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) led Alfred with 20 points while Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) finished with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks.  Amie Brooks (Pavilion) had 10 points while Nuri Bey (Bronx/HS of Computers & Technology) came off the bench and finished with seven points and 12 rebounds.

Darnesha Tomlinson led the Lady Saints with 22 points while Johnesha Warren had 18 points and 11 boards.  Lenay Simms came off the bench and had 12.

Alfred State shot 36.4% from the field and 52.4% (11 for 21) from the line while MNE shot 30.3% from the field, 33% (6 for 18) from three, and 60% (18 for 30) from the line.  The Pioneers were slowed by 19 turnovers but held a 58 to 43 rebounding advantage.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Thursday when they travel to Jamestown CC for a 5:30 p.m. tip with the Jayhawks.
