Pioneer Swimmers win WNYAC Dual

The Alfred State College men's swimming team improved to 4-0 in WNYAC action with victories over Mercyhurst North East, 73-9, and Erie CC, 78-0, on Wednesday evening.  In women's action, ASC defeated MNE 26-15 but fell 25-24 to ECC.

The Alfred State College men's swimming team improved to 4-0 in WNYAC action with victories over Mercyhurst North East, 73-9, and Erie CC, 78-0, on Wednesday evening.  In women's action, ASC defeated MNE 26-15 but fell 25-24 to ECC.

The Pioneer won every event except for one on the evening.  Talon Schroeder (Norwich), Jake Giglio (Hornell), and Braden Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) were all double individual event winners.  Schroeder won the 200 free (2:02.31) and the 100 back (1:05.09), Giglio won the 50 free (23.24) and the 100 free (54.51), and Kozlowski won the 100 fly (1:00.87) and the 500 free (5:23.28)

Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama) registered a victory in the 200 IM (2:26.47).

Giglio and Kozlowski combined with Sam Naughton (East Aurora) and Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton) to win the 400 free relay (3:49.26) while Schroeder, Mark Pendelton (Beacon), McDowell, and Tom Clause (Pioneer) won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.71.

Erin Baum (Dryden) won the 200 IM (3:03.11) and the 100 back (1:26.77) in the women's competition. She also finished 2nd in the 100 breast (1:40.49).

The Pioneers hit the pool again on Saturday when they travel to the Herkimer CCC Invitational for a 1 p.m. start.
