Pioneers Fall Just Short vs. Wright State

Alfred State and Wright State Club struggled to put points on the boards but the Raiders defense put together a goal line stand in the final minutes of the game to perserve a 11-7 victory.

The Pioneers got on the board first when Desmond Goode (Johnson Mountain, VA) dove in from two-yards out.

Wright State cut the lead to 7-3 after taking advantage of a Pioneer turnover.  They took the lead for good with just 20 seconds left in the 1st half when the connected on a long scoring pass.  They executed the swinging gate to score the two-point conversion and gain a 11-7 lead.

The Pioneers looked to be surging back into the lead late in the 4th quarter.  They drove the ball down to the 1 yard line but fumbled the ball on a 4th and goal play with 4:56 remaining that resulted in a touchback and no points on the board.

Alfred got one the ball back one more time but were unable to get the ball into scoring position.

The Pioneer defense came up with three interceptions on the day.  Alonzo Joyner (Queens/Information Technology) picked off two passes while Rilwan Onanbanjo (Staten Island/Curtis) picked off another Raider pass.

ASC is now 3-4 on the season while Wright State improves to 5-1.

The Pioneers are scheduled to travel to Allegheny College JV next Sunday for their second to last regular season contest of the season.
