Alfred State College's Health Information Technology program has been notified that a 2011 graduate and a clinical preceptor have been honored with achievement awards.
Lisa Meaney, Victor, has been awarded the NYHIMA (New York Health Information Management Association) Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Her experience in the HIT profession has given her new knowledge of the profession’s expansive nature. Meaney, who says she loved the distance learning experience, credits program faculty Tracy Locke, ASC assistant professor for their support and patience.
The Outstanding Achievement Award is presented to a senior student in a CAHIIM- accredited associate or baccalaureate HIM program. The nominee is selected by program faculty in concert with the program director. Criteria for selection include superior scholarship, integrity, initiative, enthusiasm, and demonstrated professional potential. The nominee should be a student member in good standing of AHIMA and be planning employment in the profession following graduation.
Diane I. Skelton, RHIT, CTR, director of Medical Records/Privacy Officer at United Memorial Medical Center (UMMC), Batavia, is the 2011 recipient of the New York Health Information Management Clinical Preceptor Award. Skelton says the staff of UMMC Medical Records was very receptive to students and enjoyed helping them learn about working in an HIM department.
This award is presented in recognition of the efforts of outstanding clinical preceptors. She is an active member of AHIMA and NYHIMA.
Both will be honored at the NYHIMA banquet in June, which is held as part of the Annual Conference of the New York Health Information Management Association, Inc.
