The Alfred State College track and field team had another strong showing at the second day of the Battleground Relays at Mary Washington University. The blue & gold was one of 12 teams in the two-day competition snd had numerous athletes qualify for nationals.
The Alfred State College track and field team had another strong showing at the second day of the Battleground Relays at Mary Washington University. The blue & gold was one of 12 teams in the two-day competition snd had numerous athletes qualify for nationals.
Brett Harrington (Rochester/Edison) won the 110 m hurdles in 14.74, Vince Antonioli (Wellsville) won the discus with a toss of 40.28 m, and the 4 x 100 relay team of Rawl Crawford (Mt. Vernon), Dre Johnson (Rochester/Edison), Harrington, and Ken Boyer (Albion) finished 2nd (43.41).
The women's sprint medley relay team of Tara Noble (Rochester/Marshall), Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts), Shea McKee (Canisteo Greenwood), and Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) set a new school record with a run of 1:54.11. The finish was good for 2nd overall.
Dorsey was also 2nd in the 100 m (12.80) and Noble was 3rd (13.33). Megan Votava (Alfred Almond) was 7th in the 100 hurdles (17.22) and vaulted 7' in her first ever pole vault event. Murphy ran a 5:25.16 in the 1,500 to qualify for nationals.
The 4x100 relay team of Dorsey, Noble, McKee and Votava raced to a 3rd place finish in 52.05.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday when they host Finger Lakes CC and Alfred University at Pioneer Stadium. Field events begin at 2 p.m.
