Three More Pioneers Qualify for Nationals

The Alfred State College indoor track & field team competed at the GaREAT Collegiate Open hosted by Lake Erie College on Saturday.  Tyree Constantine (Binghamton), Isiah Whiting (Camden, CT), and Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) all registered NJCAA National Championship qualifying performances.

The Alfred State College indoor track & field team competed at the GaREAT Collegiate Open hosted by Lake Erie College on Saturday.  Tyree Constantine (Binghamton), Isiah Whiting (Camden, CT), and Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) all registered NJCAA National Championship qualifying performances.

Constantine tied the Alfred State College record and qualified for the nationals by winning the high jump.  His winning leap was 2.00 m.

Whiting finished 5th in the 600 m in 1:23.65 to punch his ticket to nationals while Murphy was 9th in the 600 m women's race in 1:40.58 to qualify.  Murphy's performance also broke the previous ASC school record.

Brett Harrington (Rochester/Edison) finished 4th in the 60 m hurdles (8.35), David Miller (Elmira Southside) was tied for 7th in the pole vault (4.42 m), Byron Jones (Niagara Falls) was 10th in the triple jump (12.88 m), and Brandon Lewis (Red Creek) was 11th in the 600 m (1:26.99).

The trio of national championship qualifiers join Miller who qualified last week.  The 2011 NJCAA National Championships will be held at Texas Tech University on March 4-5.

The blue & gold return to action next Saturday when they travel to East Stroudsburg University Invitational.
