Pioneers Can't Tame Kats

The Alfred State men's basketball team struggled to get things started and fell 75-55 to Erie CC in a WNYAC match-up. The #13 ranked Kats are now 12-3, 3-0 on the season while the Pioneers are 6-9, 0-3.

The Alfred State men's basketball team struggled to get things started and fell 75-55 to Erie CC in a WNYAC match-up.  The #13 ranked Kats are now 12-3, 3-0 on the season while the Pioneers are 6-9, 0-3.

Devon Elliott led Erie with 22 points while Darale Young added 14.  Rayshawn Sumlin had a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards and Kareem Sulaiman had 10 boards and six points.  Erie shot 43.5% for the game and held a 56 to 32 rebounding advantage.

Jamar White (Laurel, MD) led the Pioneers with 18 while Marquis Chatman (Allen, TX) added 14 points and six boards.  Cristian Santana (Harlem Village) came off the bench and chipped in eight.  Alfred shot just 30.9% from the field for the contest.

Erie held a 41-28 lead at halftime.

The Pioneers tough stretch continues on Saturday when they travel to Rochester to take on the #6 ranked Tribunes.  Opening tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
