Finding a job after graduating from college doesn’t have to be a challenge. In some career fields, employers cannot fill positions quickly enough, as the number of openings is much greater than the number of qualified, college-educated candidates available.

“The success of our students and ways for us to further support their development, those are the sort of events that mean the most to me when looking back at the year,” stated President Dr. Skip Sullivan. “I want to congratulate the students, faculty, staff, and alumni who all made incredible contributions to the college in 2016.”

The addition of a new motorcycle and power sports technology degree illustrates how Alfred State’s Automotive Trades Department is preparing tomorrow’s technicians for successful careers. That dedication to excellence has earned Alfred State a place among CJ Pony Parts’ top 40 automotive schools in the nation.

For those Alfred State students feeling a little dog-eared while studying for their finals, a group of 10 canines was able to provide some much-needed comfort and relief on Monday at the Hinkle Memorial Library.

It may be the postal carriers who are known for promising that their work won’t stop at the whim of the weather, but construction workers at Alfred State’s Pioneer Stadium are giving the postal service some competition.

Dr. Richard Kellogg, professor emeritus of psychology at Alfred State, is the author of an article appearing in the most recent issue of Paperback Parade, a quarterly journal for readers and book collectors. The article is titled “Rooster Cogburn Rides Again.”

Thanks to 680 donors, Alfred State greatly surpassed its goals for its inaugural Day of Giving on Nov. 29.

For more than 50 years, a group of Alfred State Gamma Theta Gamma brothers and Pi Nu Epsilon sisters have made it a point to get together at least twice a year for a reunion. They come together to laugh, tell stories, and to simply enjoy being in one another’s company.

For more than 40 years, Alfred State alum Frank Oppedisano worked at Postler & Jaeckle Corp., which made a $50,000 donation to the college to create a scholarship in Oppedisano’s memory.

This yuletide, Nickerson, a project manager/architectural engineering designer at Alfred State, is making a rather special appearance as Kris Kringle, one that will be seen by millions of people all across the US on Dec. 12 when they tune into ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” from 8-10 p.m.

Working alongside industry stakeholders, Alfred State offers a range of comprehensive, targeted programs that get students into their fields with the skill sets industry needs.

Like clockwork for 20 years now, past faculty members of the Alfred State Nursing Department have returned to the Southern Tier in the fall for a reunion. This year, they had even more reason to celebrate, with the college’s first nursing program marking its golden anniversary.

Wendy Dresser-Recktenwald, senior director of Human Resources and the Center for Community Education and Training, said, “Alfred State is once again pleased to bring a high-quality expert on this subject to the Southern Tier to train our businesses. Sara Visingard has extensive experience in nonprofit law and we are excited to have her with us.”

Celebrating the many different cultures represented at Alfred State, as well as the benefits of international education and exchange, the college recently hosted a weeklong series of events to coincide with International Education Week (IEW).
