“The sisters really took me in. They joke that I came around and I never left. I knew they had me my back. It was an amazing support system. This is always going to be my home away from home.”

Jenna Plouse (Sayre, PA) fell in love with Alfred State when she visited campus and now wants to help others in their times of need. While she has been at Alfred, she has found her true passion while studying Human Services Management.
“I chose Alfred State because I wanted to be a little further away but not too far away. I fell in love with the small town. It is beautiful. I love walking home and seeing all the views Alfred has.”
After starting in a different major, Jenna found Human Services and now wants to work with women or children that have been in abusive situations.
“Classes are small, and we have one on one with our teachers. I like the fact that all my professors have worked in the field. Any questions that you have you can ask them for your future career. We have learned how to help people, how to keep our voice at a calm tone, and how to help other people find the resources they need.”
Wanting to be part of the support system for others, Jenna found her own support system at Alfred State through her sisters in the Delta Chi Omega sorority.
“The sisters really took me in. They joke that I came around and I never left. I knew they had me my back. It was an amazing support system. This is always going to be my home away from home.”
Through her sorority, Jenna has been part of Project Prom Dress, a program that distributes formal wear and accessories to high school students in the surrounding area. She sees it as a connection to what she is learning in the classroom.
In class we are helping people figure out what resources they need and helping them along the way in getting those resources, with Project Prom Dress we are helping them find their resource, a prom dress, which will make them feel beautiful on their prom night.”
Jenna’s connections with Delta Chi Omega have also helped her as she plans for her career. “I have met alumni that are always on my side. They reach out to me with open positions and put in the good word for me.”
Lessons learned within the classroom and through her experiences with Greek life at Alfred State have helped Jenna find her passion for helping others.
