Alfred State College (ASC) Chief Financial Officer Joe Greenthal has been named the Vice President of Finance and Administration at Lander University (Greenwood, SC). Greenthal, a 2009 ASC graduate, began his career as a payment services assistant in 2010 and quickly earned increasing responsibilities.

“We are grateful for the time Joe has spent with us,” commented Alfred State President Steven Mauro PhD. “He has created teams and systems that are well positioned to continue the good work that he has envisioned as our CFO. Because of his leadership, we are positioned for continued success at Alfred State College.”

Some of Greenthal’s accomplishments include revitalization of the college farm and capital construction projects. Through his leadership, the relaunch of the MacKenzie Complex, built in 1973 as the largest residence hall in the SUNY system, meets or surpasses the quality of any SUNY residence hall in the state. Some projects are just beginning at Agriculture Science and a massive rebuild of the underground infrastructure. Greenthal credits his team for these successes and the financial strength of the institution.

“There are many things I have had a hand in that I am very proud of, but the real work has always been done by the good people I have had the honor to serve. There are accomplishments that can be seen by many, and others which most people will really never be aware. I am proud of both, but I like knowing some of the biggest accomplishments will be felt for years to come without people truly knowing what work happened in the background to make it all happen.”

Greenthal enrolled at Alfred State in 2005 after serving in the United State Army. He was the recipient of numerous medals during his service, including the State of New York Medal for Merit for his efforts during the Iraqi War.

He earned an associate degree in business management in 2007 and bachelor’s degrees in financial planning and technology management in 2009. As a student, he was the recipient of many scholarships, as well as the 2007 Paul B. Orvis Award and the Outstanding Student Award in Financial Planning in 2009.

Greenthal will begin at Lander on July 1. While he is now advancing his career, Greenthal will forever be a proud Pioneer.
