“The dual degree nursing program was exactly what I was looking for. The program design allows you to get your associates within three years, take your boards, and start working. Then, you only have one year left to earn your bachelor’s degree.”

The close-knit community and challenging curriculum led Riley Mucher to Alfred State’s nursing program.

Riley, a Warsaw High School graduate, earned her AAS in Nursing in May 2021 and is now working in the field while completing her BSN.

“The dual degree nursing program was exactly what I was looking for. The program design allows you to get your associates within three years, take your boards, and start working. Then, you only have one year left to earn your bachelor’s degree.”

“The nursing professors are amazing. They are very kind, intelligent, and willing to take time out of their day to help you and build you into a better student, nurse, and person.”

Riley has learned valuable lessons in and outside the classroom. “I am able to assess, medicate, advocate, and assist my patients with all the skills I learned. The program keeps you on your toes and you are always learning something new.”

“The clinical experiences were one of my favorite parts. There are different facilities of different sizes that you are able to get experience at. This was where most of my learning occurred. Our simulation lab is amazing as well. The nursing faculty do a great job making the situation as realistic as possible.”

Riley’s experiences at Alfred State have molded her into a motivated hardworking RN. “My professors and the nursing program pushed me and showed me the importance of learning and continuing education.”

“The thing I enjoy most about Alfred State is how at home I fell. The community is safe, small, and close-knit. I like recognizing people around me and bumping into friends on the way to class.”

On top of her studies, Riley was a member of the soccer team and a member of the Hope for Health club. She also was a recipient of a scholarship that helped her reach her goals.

“Playing on the women’s soccer team helped me with time management skills, accountability, and self-care.”

Riley encourages others to, “Stay positive and share a smile! There are a lot of people on campus and many ways to get involved.”
