While the weather may not have been ideal for some of the festivities, Alfred State Pioneers and their families still had a great time during this year’s Homecoming and Family Weekend.

On Friday, participants enjoyed the annual spirit rally and bonfire while indulging in many complimentary treats and foods, as well as an amazing fireworks display. They also cheered on student teams during the Pioneer Challenge, which featured entertaining events such as the Not-So-Naked-Half-Mile and dodgeball. Capping off the Friday events was the always-fun Alfred’s Got Talent show.

While battling rainy conditions on Saturday, Homecoming celebrants took part in a chili competition and basket raffle and enjoyed some more Pioneer Challenge competitions before the big football game at Pioneer Stadium. Music was provided during halftime by Vortex Winds, a winds ensemble from Syracuse, and after the game by Nik and the Nice Guys.

Also on Saturday, Battle Street Brewery offered two delicious beers on tap and one cider at the post-game party, and guests were able to pet and interact with two oxen named Pete and Joe, courtesy of Brandt Ainsworth. Rounding out the Saturday events was Alfred’s Campus Feud, a fun Family Feud-style event in which several visiting families competed against one another. A brunch on Sunday closed out the weekend festivities.

Colleen Argentieri, director of Alumni Relations and co-chair of the Homecoming and Family Weekend Committee, said, “Despite the inclement weather, there was lots of activity and laughter everywhere. Families and students enjoyed petting the visiting oxen, Pete and Joe, stands were full of fans cheering on the Pioneer football team, Nik and the Nice Guys were their typical excellent group, and there was a plethora of food and drink available. It was a terrific day and we were pleased with the turnout.”
