Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) and Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office.
Witchella recorded two double-doubles in the Lady Pioneers victories this week. She scored 34 points, grabbed 26 rebounds, and blocked six shots in a win at Genesee CC and recorded 12 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks in a win vs. Jamestown CC. Withchella is averaging 16.8 ppg this season and 11.1 rpg for the 18-8 Lady Pioneers.
Peet opened up the competition with a pin of Jose Mariscal (Triton (IL) College) in 2:45. In his 2nd round match, Peet lost a hard fought 6-2 decision to Mac Malderelli (Nassau CC). In the consolation bracket, Peet rebounded with a pin of Demetrius Taylor (Ellsworth (IA) CC) in 1:53. In his consolation 3rd round match, Peet lost a one-point decision, 8-7, to Casey Williams (Itasca (MN) CC) to see his season come to an end. He finishes his 2011-12 season with a 15-5 record and he finishes his two-year career with a 42-17 mark.
