Give Up A Meal donationAlfred State College students once again participated in the Student Senate and ACES (Auxiliary Campus Enterprises and Services, the campus dining and vending organization) sponsored "Give Up A Meal" (GUAM) program whereby students who donate a "meal punch" help raise money for charity.   This semester's event, coordinated by Will Fritzinger, WETD-FM radio station, raised $1,512 which was donated to the Literacy Volunteers of Allegany County in support of the Breakfast with Santa program.  They raised the money in just over two hours, and had 16 volunteer students manning stations to encourage donations.

The Literacy Volunteers of Allegany County (LVAC) is a long-standing, non-profit organization working to promote literacy and lifelong learning for youth, adults, and families.  They partner with area libraries hosting family reading activities as well as local businesses to assure a literate workforce.  LVAC is supported by volunteers, in particular high school students.  This year marks the 5th annual Breakfast with Santa program held at the Friendship Central School.  The Breakfast with Santa event began in 2003; on average 325 children and their caregivers from across Allegany County have attended the event annually.  The children and their parents receive a pancake breakfast, a picture with Mr. & Mrs. Santa, participate in hallway activities and literacy workshops, and receive new books.
