Payne and two of his students, freshman Jonathan Wist, Deposit, and senior David Raynor, Kennedy, competed against many professional construction companies.

“The competition was tough,” says Payne, noting that David placed ninth, and he placed fourth. The difference between first and second was 1/100th of a second, Payne noted.

The Hard Hat Expo is a gathering of all the construction equipment and services in New York State. Real estate developers, architects, engineers, contractors, builders, surveyors, traders, town planners, interior designers, property and facilities management companies, hotel management groups and owners' corporations attend.
