The Alfred State College baseball used a five-run 2nd inning en route to their first victory of the 2011 season, 8-6 over Rock Valley (IL) College.  The Pioneers are now 1-3 halfway through their trip to Cocoa, FL.

The Alfred State College baseball used a five-run 2nd inning en route to their first victory of the 2011 season, 8-6 over Rock Valley (IL) College.  The Pioneers are now 1-3 halfway through their trip to Cocoa, FL.

Anthony Espe (Union Endicott) was 2 for 2 with a RBI while Dennis Dueno (Brooklyn/Bishop Ford) was 2 for 4 with a RBI to pace the offense.  Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) chipped in two hits as well.

Mitch Kippola (Ithaca) picked up the victory tossing 5.1 innings.  He allowed nine hits and five earned runs while striking out three.  Steven Butler (Middletown) got the Pioneers out of a jam in the 6th by getting the final two outs and Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) picked up the final three outs of the game to earn the save.

The blue & gold return to action tomorrow morning when they take on Alice Lloyd (KY) College JV.  First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
