Pioneers Win 6th Straight

The Alfred State College won their 6th straight contest and improved to 10-9 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Northampton CC.  The Pioneers won the opener 5-0 and the nightcap 5-3.

The Alfred State College won their 6th straight contest and improved to 10-9 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Northampton CC.  The Pioneers won the opener 5-0 and the nightcap 5-3.

Andrew Foster (Mississaugua, ONT) allowed just three hits in the complete game shutout victory in game one.  He didn't walk anyone and struck out 11 batters.  Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) was 3 for 4 while Jake Dale (Keshequa) was 2 for 4.

In the nightcap, Berto Vargas (Norman Thomas) connected on a two-run HR in the 5th to tie the contest at 3-3.  ASC added two runs in the 6th to take the victory and the sweep.  Joe Wallace (Avoca) and O'Brien were each 2 for 3 with a RBI to pace the offense.

Brent Johnson (Penn Yan) retired all six batters he faced out of the blue and gold's bullpen to earn the victory.  Ray Sova (West Genesee) retired Northampton in order to earn his second save on the two day trip.

The Pioneers are scheduled to play their home opener on Tuesday when they host Erie CC.  First pitch of the DH is at 2 p.m.
