Pioneers Stung by Hornets

The Alfred State lacrosse team fell behind early but rallied to tie their contest with Broome CC at 8-8 late in the 3rd quarter but the Hornets scored the next four goals and held off the Pioneers attempts to rally to stay alive for the postseason with a 12-10 victory. The Pioneers are now 6-9 overall (5-8 Region III) heading into their season finale on Saturday while BCC improves to 7-8 (6-7 RIII).

The Alfred State lacrosse team fell behind early but rallied to tie their contest with Broome CC at 8-8 late in the 3rd quarter but the Hornets scored the next four goals and held off the Pioneers attempts to rally to stay alive for the postseason with a 12-10 victory. The Pioneers are now 6-9 overall (5-8 Region III) heading into their season finale on Saturday while BCC improves to 7-8 (6-7 RIII).

Broome led 3-1 after the 1st quarter and 6-4 at halftime.  The Pioneers tied the game at 8-8 with 3:04 remaining in the 3rd quarter on a goal by Mike Hart (Ajax, ONT) but the Hornets took back the lead with a goal with 1:54 remaining in the quarter by Josh Kilts and scored the first three goals of the 4th quarter in the first five minutes to take a four-goal lead.  The blue & gold tallied goals by Frank Martin (Whitney Point) and Lance Elithorpe (Shaftsbury, VT) to cut it to 12-10 with 5:54 remaining but the Hornets kept Alfred off the board the rest of the way including during three man-up opportunities.

Hart led the way for the Pioneers with three goals and two assists while Elithorpe recorded a hat trick.  Aaron Koskowski (East Aurora) had two goals, Danny Weimer (Derby/Lake Shore) and Martin each had a goal, and Brad Zacher (Medina) had two assists.  Chance Lowry (Waterloo) also picked up one assist.

In net, Brad Stowell (Marcellus) made 19 saves for the Pioneers.
