The Alfred State College football team revenged an early season loss at Erie CC with a 21-15 victory over the Kats to close out the 2009 season.  The Pioneers who received a forfeit victory earlier in the week finish their campaign with a 5-5 record while the Kats finish 4-6.

The Pioneers jumped on the board first on the first offensive possession of the game.  Jeff Glomb (Buffalo/St. Francis) connected with Pat White (Warren, OH) on a 10-yard scoring play.  Glomb and White connected three times in the drive for 83 yards.

Erie held the ball for a majority of the first half but the blue & gold stopped two scoring drives with Sir Aaron Taylor (Lincoln Hall) interceptions.  On his second interception, Taylor raced 85-yards to give the Pioneers a 13-0 lead with 6:57 remaining in the half (the PAT was blocked).

The Kats got on the board with 4:25 remaining in the half when Typheen Taylor hit Trevor Cola on a 21-yard scoring play.  ECC converted on a two-point conversion to make it 13-8 at halftime.

Neither team could get on the board in the 3rd quarter trading possessions near midfield.  With 11:19 remaining in the game, ASC took a two score lead again when Quintin McKenzie (Euclid, OH) took a short pass from Sir Aaron Taylor and broke numerous tackles and raced into the end zone.  Taylor found Rod Streater (Burlington, NJ) for the two-point conversion to make it 21-8.

Erie answered right back with 8:45 remaining when Typheen Taylor dove in from 1-yard out.  The Mike Lawandus extra point made it 21-15.

The Kats held the Pioneers in their next possession but turned the ball over on downs with 3:25 remaining in the game.  ASC was able to pick up a first down and run the clock out to seal the victory.

Sir Aaron Taylor had a monster game playing in all three aspects of the game.  He recorded seven tackles, intercepted two passes, and had a sack on defense, was 3 for 8 for 83 yards and a score at quarterback and rushed for 28 yards on offense, and even punted twice for ASC.

Glomb was 4 for 12 for 93 yards and a score before sustaining an injury.  White finished with 88 yards receiving and McKenzie had 66.

Typheen Taylor finished 9 for 20 for 98 yards for ECC and rushed for 65 yards on 21 carries.  Cola caught four passes for 52 yards and rushed for 17 yards on four carries.

Wendell Williamson (New Haven, CT) led the defense with 12 tackles (four for a loss and one sack), Kyle Ricks (Alexandria, VA) added 11 tackles (six for a loss and a sack), and Chadd Parker (Erie, PA) finished with 10 tackles (one for a loss and a forced fumble).  Dwayne Smith (Rochester/Aquinas) picked off a pass while Obi Ezemma (Ramapo) and Drew Hammond (Walton) each had sacks.

Randy Bloom led Erie with nine tackles and a sack while Rashad Payne picked off a pass.

ECC ran 69 plays compared to ASC's 47.  The Pioneers outgained Erie 221 to 204 in a game that featured 29 penalties for 243 yards (ASC 15 for 125 and ECC 14 for 115).

The victory over Erie was just the Pioneers second all-time in twelve all-time meetings (ECC defeated ASC 10-6 earlier in the season).
