Pioneers Down Bottineau, Fall to Riverland

The Alfred State College baseball team downed Dakota College @ Bottineau 10-5 but fell 7-1 to Riverland (MN) CC as they continue their annual trip to Cocoa Expo.  The Pioneers are now 4-4 on the season.

The Alfred State College baseball team downed Dakota College @ Bottineau 10-5 but fell 7-1 to Riverland (MN) CC as they continue their annual trip to Cocoa Expo.  The Pioneers are now 4-4 on the season.

Versus Bottineau, ASC stole 11 bases in the victory.  Steve Smith (Hornell) was 2 for 4 with three stolen bases and three runs scored while JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and two stolen bases.  Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) finished 1 for 1 with 3 RBI and Brian Zimmermann (Frontier) was 1 for 2 with three stolen bases and two runs scored.

Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) improved to 2-0 on the season with seven solid innings of work.  He allowed seven hits and three earned runs while walking five and striking out five.

With the contest tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th, Riverland exploded for six runs to race to the victory.  Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) tossed six innings allowing five earned runs and nine hits while walking one and striking out five.  Barkley drove in the lone Pioneer run when he doubled home Jake Dale (Keshequa).  ASC was held to just four hits.

Alfred State continues their spring trip on Friday with a 9 a.m. contest versus Iowa Lakes CC.  The team concludes their trip on Saturday with rematches versus North Iowa Area CC and Dakota College @ Bottineau.
