Alfred State and Mercyhurst North East split a Region III Division II doubleheader on Thursday. The Saints won a wild opener 11-9 while the Pioneers used a strong pitching performance to win game two, 8-1.
Mercyhurst scored three runs in the 6th inning keyed by a two run triple by Matthew Adamczyk to rally from a 9-8 deficit to win game one. MNE held an 8-3 lead early on but Alfred State rallied for three runs in the 2nd, one in the 3rd, and two in the 4th to take a 9-8 lead.
Nick Koroluck (Owego) led ASC with a 2 for 3, 2 RBI day while Jake Dale (Keshequa) was 2 for 4 with a RBI. Kevan Smith (Cicero North Syracuse) was 2 for 4 with a solo homer and Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) drove in three runs.
Tyler Ward (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) allowed three hits in a complete game victory in game two. He struck out ten and didn't allow an earned run. Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) led the offense with a 3 for 4 day. He drove in one and scored three times. ASC scored two runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 6th innings and scored single runs in the 4th and 5th.
ASC (18-17, 3-7 Region III Division II) and MNE tangle again on Saturday at Hirtzel Field in North East, PA. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
