Several new faculty and staff members have joined Alfred State in Academic Affairs, Administration and Enrollment, Institutional Advancement, Marketing Communications, and Student Affairs.

Several new faculty and staff members have joined Alfred State in Academic Affairs, Administration and Enrollment, Institutional Advancement, Marketing Communications, and Student Affairs.

Academic Affairs

New hires include: Jill Amati, Jason Beiler, John Burke, Sherine El Hag, Lisa Harmon, Scott Harmon, Heinrich Hermann, Kelly Sue Pettis, Christine Seidel, Amy Shaver, and Scott Waterman. New staff include: Jenny Hillenbrand, Krystal Perlman, Mechele Romanchok, and Christopher Travis.

Amati, of Dansville, joins Alfred State as assistant professor of social sciences in the Social and Behavioral Science Department. She holds several degrees including a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from University of Washington, a master’s degree in applied medical anthropology from Oregon State University, a master’s degree in public administration and a doctorate in cultural anthropology, both from Syracuse University. She was previously an adjunct professor at LeMoyne College.

Beiler, of Alfred Station, joins Alfred State as instructional support assistant and dairy herd manager for the College Farm. He holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Berea College in Kentucky.

Burke joins Alfred State as assistant professor in the Computer and Information Technology Department. He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Mongolia and served most recently as an instructor at Clark University’s Computer Career Institute. Burke has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Bentley College, a master’s of business administration from Indiana University, and a doctorate degree in business administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana.

El Hag, of Alfred, joins Alfred State as assistant professor of economics. She has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in economics from The American University in Cairo as well as a master’s degree in economics from Claremont Graduate University. Additionally, she holds a master’s in business administration from the Drucker School of Management, and a doctorate degree in economics, both from Claremont Graduate University.

Lisa Harmon, of Wellsville, joins Alfred State as assistant professor of nursing. Prior to joining Alfred State, she was director of nursing at Salish Kootenai College in Montana. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Penn State, a master’s degree from St. Joseph’s College of Maine, and a doctorate degree from Walden University.

Scott Harmon, of Wellsville, joins Alfred State as instructor, Building Trades. Most recently, he was instructor and department head for the highway construction training program at Salish Kootenai College in Montana.

Hermann joins Alfred State as department chair/associate professor in the Architecture and Design Department in the College’s School of Architecture, Management and Engineering Technology. Hermann holds degrees from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria, Cornell University, and a doctorate degree in history and theory of architecture from Harvard University.

Pettis, of Andover, joins Alfred State as adjunct professor of English. Previously, she taught English at Cedar Heights. She has a bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland and a master’s degree from Grand Canyon University.

Seidel, of Henrietta, joins Alfred State as assistant professor, Agriculture and Veterinary Technology Department. She holds a bachelor’s degree in zoology and a doctorate of veterinary medicine, both from Iowa State University.

Shaver, of Albany, joins Alfred State as associate professor of nursing. Previously, she was director of the nursing program at Maria College. She has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing from SUNY IT and a doctorate in rural nursing from Binghamton University.

Waterman joins Alfred as instructor, Automotive Trades Department. Previously, he was a teacher at Erie 1 BOCES. He holds a master’s degree in career and technical education from Buffalo State College. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in career and technical education, both from Buffalo State College.

Hillenbrand, of Alfred, joins Alfred State as instructional support assistant in the Hinkle Memorial Library. She holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Alfred University and served most recently as a student assistant at Alfred University.

Perlman joins Alfred State as a help desk technician. She is a graduate of Alfred State where she earned an associate’s degree in applied science, a bachelor’s degree in technology, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Romanchok, of Alfred Station, joins Alfred State as an instructional support assistant in the Hinkle Memorial Library. She was previously the school librarian at Andover Central School. She has a bachelor’s degree from Alfred University and a master’s degree from Clarion University.

Travis joins Alfred State as a computer technician. He holds a bachelor’s degree in network administration from Alfred State and an associate’s degree in computer information systems.

Administration and Enrollment

New hires include: Rachel Flint, Kevin Gemmell, Luann Griffin, Mark Jackson, Becky Sawdey, Libby Tsibulsky, James Whedon and Shawn Zajicek.

Flint joins Alfred State as a keyboard specialist in the Admissions Office.

Gemmel, of Hornell, joins Alfred State as a cleaner in the Physical & Health Sciences Building.

Griffin, of Arkport, joins Alfred State as keyboard specialist in the Student Records & Financial Services Office.

Jackson, of Cameron, joins Alfred State as a cleaner in Parish Hall and the MacKenzie Complex.

Sawdey, of Swain, joins Alfred State as a cleaner in the Physical & Health Sciences Building.

Tsibulsky, of Hornell, joins Alfred State as counselor. She was previously a resident director at Alfred University. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling, both from Alfred University.

Whedon, of Arkport, joins Alfred State as director of printing and mailing services in the College’s Document Center. Whedon was most recently vice president of manufacturing at Macomb Printing, Inc. He has an associate’s in applied science from Ferris State University and bachelor’s degree in business administration from Central Michigan University.

Zajicek, of Belmont, joins Alfred State as plant utilities assistant. Previously, he was a carpenter with the Waskell Company.

Institutional Advancement

Cheryl Stanton, of Alfred, joins Alfred State as database services manager. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from SUNY Regents College, a master’s degree in math, science and technology education from St. John Fisher College, and is completing a doctorate degree in stem education and entrepreneurial skills.

Marketing Communications

Tami Bacon, of Hornell, joins Alfred State as communications specialist. Previously, she was public relations manager at Pictometry International Corp. in Rochester. She has a bachelor’s degree in communications/journalism from St. John Fisher College.

Student Affairs

New hires include: Kristofer Bianchi, Clayton Brigham, Audery Cloum, Rebecca Coons, Ian Hodkin, Danielle Kincaid, Matt Trowbridge, and Alyshia Zurlick.

Bianchi joins Alfred State as a university police officer. He was previously with the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office where he was a corrections officer. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from SUNY Oneonta.

Brigham joins Alfred State as assistant baseball coach. He is a graduate of Erie Community College where he earned an associate’s degree.

Cloum joins Alfred State as residence director, Student Life. Most recently, she was with Indiana State University where she was assistant hall director. She has a bachelor’s degree in behavior development and language arts from Eastern Michigan University and a master’s degree in student affairs and higher education from Indiana State University.

Coons, of East Amherst, joins Alfred State as residence director, Student Life. Most recently, she was with Medaille College where she worked as a graduate assistant for leadership development. She holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from SUNY Geneseo and a master’s degree in college student personnel administration from Canisius College.

Hodkin, of Forestville, joins Alfred State as a university police officer. He has a degree in criminal justice from Jamestown Community College and was most recently employed by the town of Eden Police Department.

Kincaid joins Alfred State as residence director, Student Life. She has a bachelor’s degree in professional writing and a master’s degree in student affairs and higher education, both from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.

Zurlick, of Alfred Station, joins Alfred State as assistant director for the College’s new Student Leadership Center and new student orientation. Prior to joining the College, she was resident director at SUNY Brockport where she earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree.
