The Alfred State College baseball team had its 13-game winning streak snapped in a doubleheader at Monroe CC on Thursday afternoon.  The Tribunes won both halves of the doublheader, 4-1 & 11-6.

The Alfred State College baseball team had its 13-game winning streak snapped in a doubleheader at Monroe CC on Thursday afternoon.  The Tribunes won both halves of the doublheader, 4-1 & 11-6.

In the opener, Steve Muoio was 1 for 3 with three RBI to pace the Tribunes.  His two-run homer in the 4th broke a scoreless tie and his sacrifice fly in the 6th gave MCC an insurance run.

Jeff Paul (Horsheads) was 2 for 2 with a double while Kevin Underhill (Somers) collected the Pioneers only RBI with a single in the 6th inning.  Jeff Benchich (Millbrook) allowed five hits and three earned run in six innings and was the tough luck loser.

In the nightcap, ASC jumped out to a 5-3 heading into the bottom of the 2nd inning but the Tribunes scored eight of the games next nine runs to earn the victory.  MCC scored four big runs in the 5th inning to put the game out of reach.

Underhill was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Yordis Veras (Newtown) was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington) was 2 for 4.

A-State is now 20-11-1 (4-2 Region III Division II) on the year and will take on the Tribunes (29-12, 5-1 Region III Division II) in another doubleheader on Saturday at Alfred State.
