Men's Soccer Moves Up to 5th Nationally

The Alfred State men's soccer team is ranked 5th in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll.  The Pioneers moved up two spots from last week's ranking of 7th.  This is the eighth consecutive week that the team has been ranked in the top 15 rankings.

The Alfred State men's soccer team is ranked 5th in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll.  The Pioneers moved up two spots from last week's ranking of 7th.  This is the eighth consecutive week that the team has been ranked in the top 15 rankings.

Alfred State has a record of 13-3 overall and 13-1 against Region III Division III opponents.  The Pioneers are led offensively by Jason Durst (Gates-Chili) and Lucas Wales (Haverling) who each have eight goals on the season.  Kevin Arilotta (Churchville-Chili) and Alex Curran (Williamson) lead the team in assists with five each. 

Eric Reynolds (East Rochester) anchors the Pioneer defense which has a 0.93 goals against average as a team.  Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) has been stellar in net all season with a 12-2 record and 0.80 goals against average.

The Pioneer men defeated Tompkins Cortland CC 2-0 on Tuesday in the Region III quarterfinals.  Alfred State took advantage of two corner kick opportunities and the defense was able to hold off all Tompkins Cortland scoring threats. 

Alfred State will next take on SUNY Delhi in the Region III Division III semifinals November 1 at 3 p.m. at Herkimer.
