The Alfred State College volleyball team captured the progam's first Western New York Athletic Conference Championship with two victories at the annual end-of-year tournament.  The Lady Pioneers downed Niagara CCC 3-1 in the semis and Genesee CC 3-1 to claim the title and improve to 33-3 on the year.

The Alfred State College volleyball team captured the progam's first Western New York Athletic Conference Championship with two victories at the annual end-of-year tournament.  The Lady Pioneers downed Niagara CCC 3-1 in the semis and Genesee CC 3-1 to claim the title and improve to 33-3 on the year.

Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westihill) led the way versus NCCC (25-21, 22-25, 25-9, 25-18) with 18 kills, 10 digs, and two blocks while Miki Inoue (Kumamoto, Japan) chipped in 24 digs, eight kills, and three assists.  Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) finished with nine kills, eight digs, and three blocks, Breanna Horton (Owego Free) passed out 38 assists and was credited with five digs, and Emily Linn (Portville) chipped in six kills, five digs, and four blocks.  Chrissy Nolan (Niagara Wheatfield) had 14 digs.

In the finals vs. Genesee (23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22), Toyodome had a big match with 17 kills, eight digs, and two blocks.  Jerome finished with 16 digs and 13 kills, Linn had 11 digs, nine kills, and three blocks, Horton passed out 33 assists and had five kills.  Inoue added a game-high 20 digs and four kills.

Jerome was named the WNYAC tournament MVP while Toyodome and Inoue were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Pioneers entered the tournament the #1 seed after a perfect 6-0 WNYAC regular season.

ASC, ranked #7 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, will prepare for the Region III Division III Tournament next Saturday.  The tournament will begin at 11 a.m. at Alfred State.  ASC will most likely be the #1 seed when official seeding is announced Monday.
