Lady Spikers Fall Just Short of Advancing

The Alfred State College volleyball team fell just short of advancing out of pool play at the Region III Division III Championships.  The Lady Pioneers were 1-2 on the day and finish the season 23-17.

The #6 Lady Pioneers opened up the day with a 22-25, 18-25, 25-21 loss to #3 Finger Lakes CC.  They then gave #2 Erie CC all they could handle but fell 26-28, 23-25, 25-16.  They wrapped up pool play with a sweep of SUNY Adirondack 25-16, 25-17, 25-16.

If the Lady Pioneers had one more game they would have advanced to the regional semfinals.  Erie CC and Finger Lakes CC earned the spots and advance to take on Niagara CCC and Broome CC in tomorrow's semifinals.

Meghan Kraus (Trumansburg) led the way with 31 kills, 23 digs, and four aces.  She was named All-Tournament for her efforts.  Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) chipped in 27 kills, 19 digs, and two aces, Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) had 18 kills, 17 digs, and six blocks, and Mandy Bush (Altoona, PA) passed out 76 assists and had 18 digs and seven kills.  Mishaya Tuttle (Campbell Savona) finished with 12 kills, 16 digs, and seven aces and Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) had 33 digs.

The Lady Pioneers were making their eight straight trip to the Regional Tournament and have won more than 20 matches in each of the last six seasons.
