Lady Pioneer Comeback Falls Short

The Alfred State College women's basketball team couldn't come back from a first half deficit and fell 64-50 to Finger Lakes CC on Tuesday.  FLCC used a 17-0 run in the last seven minutes of the half to lead 31-17 and held off a Lady Pioneer second half rally that closed the gap to four points.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team couldn't come back from a first half deficit and fell 64-50 to Finger Lakes CC on Tuesday.  FLCC used a 17-0 run in the last seven minutes of the half to lead 31-17 and held off a Lady Pioneer second half rally that closed the gap to four points. 

Brittney Williams had a big night to lead the Lady Lakers.  She finished with 22 points, 21 rebounds, and seven assists.  Jordyn Eckman finished with 12 points and Bobbi Dixon came off the bench and chipped in 11.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led the way for the Blue and Gold with 18 points and eight rebounds.  Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) finished with seven while Danielle Hanchett (Genesee Valley) and Megan Coates (Rochester/Nazareth) each came off the bench and added six points each.

ASC shot just 26.3% (20 for 76) from the field and 50% (9 for 18) from the foul line while FLCC shot 40.7% (22 for 54) from the field and 61.3% (19 for 31) from the foul line.  The Lady Lakers were slowed down by 31 turnovers.

Alfred State falls to 3-5 overall on the season while Finger Lakes is now 7-1.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Thursday when they host the JV Yellowjackets from the University of Rochester.  Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
