Alfred State College sophomore baseball player JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) has signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Delaware State University. Frey made his decision during the early signing period and will join the Hornets in the fall of 2011.
Frey hit .399 with 12 doubles, four triples, and a homer during the 2009-10 season. He scored 46 runs and stole 18 bases for the Pioneers.
This fall he hit .311 with a double, a triple, and three RBI. He also was 8 for 10 on the basepaths.
During his time at ASC, he has been named All-WNYAC twice and All-Region. He was also named the ASC Male Freshman athlete of the year.
Frey will be the second Pioneer in recent history to move on to Delaware State. Current volunteer assistant coach Jose Sanchez transferred to DSU after spending two years wearing the blue & gold.
Frey joins a Hornet squad that finished the 2010 season with a 13-36 mark. DSU plays in the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference with Bethune Cookman, Coppin State, Florida A&M, Hampton, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Savannah State, and South Carolina State.
