Defense Leads Pioneers to Shutout Victory

The Alfred State College defense played tough as they defeated the Onondaga Ogres Football Club 38-0 in the snow on Saturday afternoon. The defense allowed just 104 total yards, recorded eight sacks, and forced four turnovers.

The Alfred State College defense played tough as they defeated the Onondaga Ogres Football Club 38-0 in the snow on Saturday afternoon. The defense allowed just 104 total yards, recorded eight sacks, and forced four turnovers.

Anthony Turner (Syracuse/Corcoran) led the defense with nine tackles and two sacks while Antonio Williams (New Haven, CT) finished with six tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble.  David Howell (Rochester/Greece Athena) recorded three sacks while Omari Windom (Syracuse/Corcoran) and Will Westbrook (Edmeston) each had a sack.  Matthew Munson (Clyde Savannah) and Gerald Dixie (Jamestown) each picked off passes. 

The defense allowed 65 yard total rushing and just 39 yards passing on the day.  The shutout was the first for the program since a 33-0 victory vs. Williamson Trade in 2008.

Greg Hampton (Uniondale) connected with Craig Zuzek (Cornwall) on a 29-yard pass play on a 4th down to open the scoring at 5:17 of the 1st quarter.

Kevin Wilkes (Frederick, MD) capped a 62-yard drive with a 2-yard run with 5:11 left to give the Pioneers a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Wilkes found the back of the endzone again on a 25-yard to start the scoring in the 2nd half.  Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) made it 24-0 with a 20-yard field goal and Tavon Moore (Syracuse/Bishop Grimes) returned a punt 40-yards for another score to give ASC a 31-0 lead after three quarters.

Sammy Diaz (Dansville) capped the scoring when he broke through the line and outran the defense for a 61-yard score with 3:15 remaining in the contest.

Diaz led the offense with 74 yards rushing on four carries while Wilkes had 49 carries on seven carries.

The blue & gold wrap the regular season next Saturday with a Noon kickoff at Hudson Valley CC.  The winner of the ASC-HVCC will earn a spot in the Region III Championships game on 11/12 at Erie CC.
