Caleb Drake (Jasper Troupsburg) scored the first goal on the new field just over a minute into the game to start a see-saw contest. Jose Hernandez tied it for Genesee with 24 minutes remaining in the half.
Jason Durst (Gates Chili) made it 2-1 with a goal after getting a pass from Alex Curran (Williamson). GCC came back with a goal by Jorge Zapata less than two minutes later before Drake netted his second goal of the game with 6:30 remaining to give the Pioneers a 3-2 halftime lead.
Genesee came out of halftime and tied it ten minutes in on a goal by Juan Villegas. Justin Handley (Iroquois) scored 55 seconds later to give A-State a lead they would never give up.
Kyle Binder (Hornell) made it 5-3 with 31:22 remaining and Masanari Yamamoto (Tokyo, Japan) scored with 14:58 remaining to make it 6-3 after getting a pass from Kevin Arilotta (Churchville Chili).
Genesee made a comeback in the final minutes scoring two goals in the final 2:25 to close within 6-5 but they couldn't get any closer.
Both teams finished with 20 shots. Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) made nine saves including one on a penalty kick while John Downs made nine saves for Genesee.
The Pioneers travel to Broome CC on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest with the Hornets.
