The Alfred State College baseball team won two out of three WNYAC games this weekend as they closed out the regular schedule of the fall season.  ASC split with Jamestown CC, winning 9-8 before falling 5-3. on Saturday and then downed Genesee CC 7-4 in a rain shortened game.

The Alfred State College baseball team won two out of three WNYAC games this weekend as they closed out the regular schedule of the fall season.  ASC split with Jamestown CC, winning 9-8 before falling 5-3. on Saturday and then downed Genesee CC 7-4 in a rain shortened game.

In the opener versus Jamestown, ASC rallied from a 7-3 deficit with two runs in the 4th inning and four runs in the 5th inning en route to the 9-8 victory. 

Berto Vargas (Norman Thomas) led the way with a 3 for 3 game with 3 RBI.  Derek Speaker (Starpoint) was 2 for 5 with an RBI, Jake Snyder (Afton) was 2 for 2, and Joe Wallace (Avoca) drove home two runs.  Brent Johnson (Penn Yan) allowed just one earned run in 3.2 innings of relief to earn the win while Travis Noyd (Union Endicott) got the final four outs to earn the save.

In the nightcap, JCC scored five run in the 5th inning en route to the victory.  ASC had the tying run on first base when the final out was recorded.  Ray Sova (West Genesee) was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Justin DiCarlo (Oakville, ONT.) was 2 for 3, and Brian Zimmerman (Frontier) was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

On Sunday, the Blue and Gold used a six run 1st inning to propel themselves to the five inning victory.  Brian Ervay (Elmira Free) was 2 for 2 with a two-run single in the 1st while Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) was 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Zimmerman chipped in two his and a RBI in four at bats.

Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) settled down after a rough 1st inning and didn't allow a hit after the opening frame.  The five inning performance earned him his first collegiate victory.

The Pioneers finish the fall regular season with a 5-8 overall mark and a 4-7 record in WNYAC play.  Seeding for this week's WNYAC tournament will be announced on Monday with 1st round action scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
