Two from Alfred State Appointed to WNY Cleaner, Greener Communities Program

Two administrators at Alfred State – Julian Dautremont-Smith, chief sustainability officer – have been appointed to the Western New York regional planning team of the Cleaner, Greener Communities Program (CGC). Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture Added

Alfred State is pleased to announce the addition of a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) degree to program offerings at the college. This addition to the School of Architecture, Management and Engineering Technology will be accepting new students beginning in fall 2013. Read Article

Alfred State Signs Sustainability Pledge

Alfred State has signed the “Commitment to Sustainable Practices of Higher Education Institutions,” joining almost 200 other college and universities worldwide. It is one of many voluntary commitments to support sustainability initiatives made as part of Rio+20, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, which began meeting on June 20. Alfred State is pleased to announce that Julian Dautremont-Smith has joined the campus community as chief sustainability officer at the college. He has served in several related positions, including as associate director for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). Read Article

Alfred State students are poised to make their own run with one of the college’s alternative fuel vehicles – a green initiative about to meet the need for speed. A prime demonstration of project-based learning, the students have rebuilt or modified much of the car as they’ve learned to make it race ready. Bensley One of 18 Selected Nationwide for Workshop

Physical and Health Sciences Department was one of 18 people nationwide who was recently selected to attend the Nucleic Acid Chemistry workshop at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA.
