Determined to beat their record from last year, 60 students and four faculty/staff members returned to Watkins Glen International Raceway in April for the 2012 Toyota Green Grand Prix. They brought home another win in fuel economy, second place overall for the Saturday road rally around Seneca Lake, and were awarded the Auto Career Development Center Excellence in Innovation Award.

Eighty-three animals have been adopted from the Hornell Area Humane Society and 18 from the SPCA Serving Allegany County in Wellsville, NY. Eighteen of the adoptions were by faculty, staff, or students since August 2011.

Former Alfred State football player Rod Streater hopes to hear his name announced from the podium of the 2012 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall this weekend. Streater, who wore the Pioneer blue & gold in 2008 and 2009 before transferring to Temple University, wrapped up his collegiate playing career in December with a touchdown catch in Temple’s win in the New Mexico Bowl

President John M. Anderson was recently named a board member of the New York Campus Compact (NYCC), an association of over 79 institutions of higher education across New York State that all advocate for “active citizenship as an objective of higher education,” according to the NYCC Web site.

Alfred State’s Pioneer Woodsmen’s Team recently hosted the second-annual Pioneer Games on the Alfred campus, and brought home a first-place victory overall with one of its four teams. A total of 19 teams with 133 participants met for competition.

Alfred State celebrated the achievements of over 290 students at the 28th Annual Honors Convocation. This year’s convocation also featured the presentation of Leadership through Civic Engagement Awards from the College Council to nine student leaders and faculty/staff members Mark Payne, Dr. Douglas Pierson, and Wendy Dresser-Recktenwald.
