“Best Beards and Braids” Fundraising Contest

The winners received a “Best Beards/Braids” tee-shirt, and a spot on an ORC trip of their choice. Read Article

Anderson and Swanson Present at Conference

Titled “Tying It All Together: An Integrative Model for Strategic Planning, Budget Allocation, and Institutional Effectiveness,” the presentation offered a best-practice model of collaborative strategic planning used at the college. Anderson and Swanson reviewed the “homegrown” creation and implementation of the college’s strategic plan which includes goals, strategies, actions, desired outcomes, key performance indicators, and actual results. Students Present Fund-raising Ideas to Box of Books

As their final exam, four groups of students (which comprised the class) presented their ideas and strategies for fundraising activities for the local library, the Box of Books. Each project included a base, or event; activities, advertising, volunteers, and cost analyses. Read Article

Students Volunteer to Prepare Holiday Meal

In the true spirit of the season, BP donated the funding for this community holiday event; the United Way and Salvation Army collaborated on identifying those families who could benefit from this event; and the culinary arts faculty, staff, and students volunteered their time to prepare the festive meal. Students Convert Farm Tractor to All-Electric-Powered Tractor

Pride was the dominant emotion recently as 19 mechanical engineering technology (MET) students and a smattering of agricultural business and welding technology students at Alfred State College gave new life to a 1949 “left-for-dead” gasoline-powered Allis Chalmers “G” farm tractor found on Craig’s List by converting it to an all-electric-powered tractor this semester.
