Alfred State placed fourth out of 12 teams at the 2012 Northeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition at Northeastern University, Boston, MA. This is a remarkable achievement given the level of competition from teams sponsored by major northeastern universities and given almost all of the other teams had graduate student members.

National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) recently published an article, "Alfred State Automotive Students Prepare to Race Hybrid Vehicles." The article mentions Automotive Trades students' involvement in the 2012 Green Grand Prix, slated for April 20-21 in Watkins Glen, NY, and racing during Speed Week beginning Aug. 11 at the Bonneville, Utah, Salt Flats.

Alfred State’s March 20 New Horizons Forum will feature , assistant professor, Building Trades, presenting an account of his work on an international team to re-create sections of the 17th century Gwozdziec Synagogue in Poland during the summer of 2011. Spencer Peavey, director of Student Activities and Orientation at Alfred State, presented “Making IT Happen, Encouraging Student Connections and Civic Engagement” to the attendees of the National Orientation Directors Association in Burlington, VT. Peavey highlighted the steps that Alfred State has taken to incorporate leadership through Civic Engagement in its Orientation and transition programs.

Professor Tom Stolberg of Alfred State’s Business Department met with Honors Program members on Feb. 20 with a simple but startling promise: by using the ‘miracle’ of compounding interest in tax-deferred index accounts held over many years, ordinary people can amass very significant amounts of money by retirement age, even considering current low interest rates.

The Alfred State Drama Club will present the play Mousetrap, at the Lake Lodge, Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m. followed by an opening night reception; Friday, April 13, a dinner theater performance at Lake Lodge, with dinner beginning at 6 p.m.; and Saturday, April 14, 7 p.m. Cost is $2 for students, $5 for the general public. Cost for the dinner theater performance is $18 per person. A bus will provide transportation between Lake Lodge and Alfred State campus.
