The Alfred State College baseball team rallied three times in game two of a non-conference doubleheader to salvage a season opening split with Pennsylvania College of Technology. Penn Tech won the opener 7-1 while A-State won the nightcap 9-8 in eight innings.

Softball/basketball player Toni Darling (Johnston), bowler Gerry Cox, and baseball player Joe Van Gorder will join the 43 current members of the Hall of Fame.

The 2008-09 Alfred State College athletic season kicks off this week as preseason camps open in preparation for the fall seasons. Football, volleyball, men's & women's soccer, and baseball will all report to campus and begin practice by Sunday while the cross country team will begin practicing on Tuesday.

Eight Alfred State College athletes have earned NJCAA Academic All-Americans for excellence in the classroom. Cal Ayers (Letchworth), Keenan Hall (Monticello), Kaila Smith (Alfred Almond), Dustin Falkner (Letchworth), and Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) were all named Distinguished Academica All-Americans while Kevin Underhill (Somers), Paul Farrell (St. Francis), and Sarah Palmiter (Alfred Almond) were named All-American.
