Brooks and McNeil Named All-Region

Alfred State College sophomores Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) and Shawna McNeil (Hornell) have been named to the Region III Division II All-Region team.  Brooks was a 1st team selection while McNeil was a 2nd team selection. Read Article

Five Tracksters Earn All-Region

Five members of the Alfred State College indoor track & field team have earned All-Region honors based on their performances at the Region III Championships.  Pam Breedlove (Rochester/East), Bridget McMahon (Avoca), Pete Francia (Greece Olympia), John Sweeney (Barker), and Eddie Sparks (Horseheads) earned the honor. ASC Receives National Recognition for Community Service, Named to President’s Honor Roll

Alfred State College has been named to the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement. Read Article

Damrath Named Distinguished Jurist by Center for Dispute Settlement

Joseph Damrath, attorney, Hornell City judge, and associate professor at Alfred State College, has been named a Distinguished Jurist by the Center for Dispute Settlement. He was honored at a luncheon in February. Damrath, who was among 10 candidates nominated for the award, selected by a panel of judges from the Seventh Judicial District (which includes Steuben County), was cited for using peaceful conflict resolution in his courtroom for the past 15 years, which helps in alleviating court-case backlogs. Professor Amman Meets With Members of Honors Program

Physical and Health Sciences Department at Alfred State College, met with members of the Alfred State College Honors Program and biology students in February to explain how high-energy, high-caffeine drinks affect the human body physically and mentally. Read Article

Communications Office Captures Bronze in National Competition

Alfred State College’s Communications Office has captured a bronze medal in the Higher Education Marketing (formerly Admissions Marketing Report) Report’s 25th annual national competition for its total recruitment package, which includes the ASC Viewbook, Applied Technology Viewbook, Road Piece, Campus Life, Financial Aid, and Athletics pieces. Pioneer Wrestlers Compete at Nationals

Five members of the Alfred State College wrestling team traveled to Des Moines, IA and competed in the NJCAA National Championships over the weekend.  The Pioneers were one of 39 teams competing in the event. Read Article
