An Alfred State College graduating senior was named State University of New York (SUNY) 2009 Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence winner. Samuel Parent, Gouverneur, was honored at a reception in Albany in April where he received a commemorative certificate and a medallion suitable to be worn at commencement and other special events. Approximately 1,100 students from Region I BOCES (Board of Cooperative Education and Services) districts encompassing Western New York and the Southern Tier, competed in the 20th annual SkillsUSA-Region I Leadership Conference and Skills Olympics, (formerly VICA--Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) held earlier this month at Alfred State College.
