Rally in the Valley 2

Students at Alfred State College will stage “Rally in the Valley 2” on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from noon-1 p.m. in the Student Gathering Place of Central Dining Hall on the Alfred campus to protest NYS Gov. David Paterson’s additional $90 million funding cuts to the SUNY (State University of New York) budget. Read Article

ASC to Host Several Humphrey Fellows

Alfred State College will host several Humphrey Fellows on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 11-12, where they will participate in a panel on climate change and meet select classes on campus as well.  On Nov. 11, Alfred State SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Robert Albrecht will introduce the panel discussion on Climate Change and Global Warming at 7 p.m. in the Orvis Auditorium on the Alfred campus.  This event is open to the public free of charge. Jakobi Presents Historical Background on H1N1 Flu Virus

Jay Pullman Exhibit at Hinkle Memorial Library

Alfred State College’s Hinkle Memorial Library Gallery will host an exhibition of the works of local artist Jay Pullman, from Monday, Nov. 2, through the end of the current academic semester (mid-December). Read Article

MLK Collegiate Challenge Grant

Alfred State College (ASC) and Alfred University (AU) successfully teamed up, winning a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service: MLK Collegiate Challenge Grant of $1,000 sponsored by the North Carolina Campus Compact. The grant supports efforts of college students to honor Dr. King through service to others. Read Article

ASC Students Help in Gowanda

On Sept. 12, 33 Alfred State students, representing 11 different clubs and organizations, traveled to Gowanda to help clean up and facilitate repairs resulting from the damaging storms on Aug. 9 and 10 of this year. Read Article

Graduate Mike Maliszewski Returns to Campus for "Taste of Wellsville"

Alfred State College’s fourth annual “Taste of Wellsville” was another success story as it raised $250 for the SPCA serving Allegany County and the concurrent culinary arts: baking, production and management community bake sale raised a record $2,800 for SkillsUSA, breast cancer research, and the Top Hat Club, the culinary honor society. Dairy Judging Team Competed in National Contests

Members of the Alfred State College Dairy Judging Team recently competed in two national contests: one in Harrisburg, PA, and one in Madison, WI. The team members include Stephen Gould, Pavilion, agricultural technology major; Kelsie Brennan, Wyoming, agricultural business major; Brittany Spencer, Perry, individual studies major; and Stephanie Spencer, Perry, agricultural technology major. Drama Club Presents Urinetown: The Musical Nov. 13-15

The Alfred State College Drama Club will present its fall production, Urinetown: The Musical, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 13-15, in the Orvis Auditorium. Friday and Saturday night performances at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday matinee performance at 3 p.m. Tickets are $3 for ASC/AU students and senior citizens (62+); $5 for the general public; tickets may be purchased at Orvis Activities Center (Student Activities) or ACES campus store (Alfred).
