The Alfred State football team's 2012 season opener vs. Brockport JV slated for Labor Day has been cancelled. The two teams will not make-up the game but Alfred will look to find a game for their open week to make up for this cancellation.

The Alfred State baseball team fell in both halves of their WNYAC season opening doubleheader vs. Mercyhurst North East. The Saints earned 10-5 and 15-3 wins to improve to 4-0, 2-0 WNYAC on the season.

The Alfred State women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Monroe (Bronx) College in their 2012 season opener. The game played in Rochester was part of the Monroe CC Invitational The Mustangs finished their trip to Rochester with a 2-0 record.

Updated 8/21: Former Alfred State football player Rod Streater is creating a buzz around the Oakland Raiders and the NFL after his performance in his first preseason game vs. the Dallas Cowboys. Streater, an undrafted free agent, spent a year as a safety and a year at wide receiver wearing the Pioneer blue & gold before transferring to Temple University for his final two years of college eligibility.

Alfred State baseball coach Jason Cronin is working on plans to bring baseball alumni back to campus during the 2012 homecoming weekend. The current Pioneers will take on a team of alumni on October 13th at approximately 4 p.m. The game will start at the conclusion of the homecoming football game which begins at 1 p.m.

The Alfred State athletic department has named Jason Cronin the new full-time baseball coach. Cronin has nearly fifteen years of coaching experience including serving as the college's interim coach during the Spring 2012 season.

Four Alfred State student-athletes were honored by the NJCAA for their excellence in the classroom. Thomas Anderson (Sodus) and Amanda Bush (Altoona, PA) earned the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement while Joe Markel (Arkport) and Zinta Rutins (Silver Spring, MD) earned the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement.

The 2012 Alfred State football team will play six of their ten games in the friendly confines of Pioneer Stadium. The defending Region III champions will look to build on the momentum of a 6-4 record in 2011.
