Outstanding debut for Logging Sports

The Alfred State logging sports team had an impressive debut at the Paul Smith’s Fall Meet. The Open team won their competition while the men’s team finished third.

Nick Costabile-Clemence, Owen Ryan, Owen Wolfanger, Riana Barron, Simon Warriner, and Alex McCarthy scored 1,155 points to take the top spot for ASC in the Open competition. They scored top honors in the Pole Climb, the Bow Saw, and the Horizontal Chop. 

Paul Smith’s College was second with 1,089.2, while SUNY Morrisville was third with 983 points.

ASC to host Farm Safety Education Event

Alfred State in partnership with the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health (NYCAMH) will be hosting a Farm Safety Education Event, Tuesday, Oct. 14 and Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Sarah Welsh from the NYCAMH) will speak with Alfred State's Farm Practicum I class and any interested farmers and guests about pinch points, tractor rollover, PTO hazards, manure pit safety, and other farm specific risks and prevention strategies.

Sunshine greeted over 1,000 high school juniors and seniors at the Veterinary, Agricultural, Sciences, and Technology (VAST) career discovery event held at the Alfred State farm. The event organized by the Agriculture and Veterinary department drew students from near and far.

Alfred State hosts College English Conference

The Alfred State English and Humanities department hosted a joint conference with the New York College Education Association (NYCEA) and the Pennsylvania College English Association (PCEA). Fifty attendees representing twenty different institutions in New York, Pennsylvania, and as far away as France and Italy attended the two-day conference entitled “Texts at Work, Labor in the Liberal Arts.”

Juliana Patrick (Howard, NY) is continuing the family tradition of attending Alfred State and working in the automotive industry. As a heavy equipment truck and diesel technician major, she is excited about the experience she is gaining. Read Article

Alfred State participates in GLOW With Your Hands Event

1,250 students attended the GLOW With Your Hands Event at the Genesee County Fair Grounds. Open to students in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming Counties introduced career opportunities with employers and organizations in agri-business, advanced manufacturing, construction and skilled trades, and food processing.

Alfred State opens The Hub in Main Gate B

Students at Alfred State College (ASC), especially those living in the Main Gate residence halls, have a new place to watch their favorite teams, play video games, or enjoy their favorite shows and movies. The Hub was recently opened in Main Gate B.

The Hub features three televisions, cozy chairs, tabletop seating, a popcorn machine, and a coffee maker. The walls of the renovated lounge are filled with ASC intercollegiate and club sport jerseys along with the original Big Blue jersey.

Alfred Open continues to raise funds for scholarships

Twenty teams competed at the 5th annual Alfred State Open organized by the Class of 1978 and the Buffalo Alumni Chapter at the Springville Country Club. The team of Kert King, ’82, Dave Bellso, ’78, Tim Young, ’78, and Dick Young took home the team honors with a score of 60.
