“We had a great weekend with lots of families and alumni coming back to enjoy the festivities,” commented committee co-chair John Lewis. “Visitors got to enjoy events all around campus. My favorite part of the weekend was watching our current students show their families and loved ones around campus.”
The Blue & Gold Dinner at the Terrace kicked off the weekend. The volleyball team battled Houghton later in the evening and students enjoyed a competitive dodgeball tournament.
Campus clubs and organizations gathered outside Pioneer Stadium for On the Block on Friday evening. The event featured a DJ, fun food from ACES, and a bonfire put on by the logging sports team.
A homecoming favorite, Alfred’s Got Talent did not disappoint as students showed off their talents. Anthony Woods took the top prize followed by Luke Jensen (second place), and Preston Lacey (third place). The Alfred State Rock Band took the audience’s favorite award.
The colorful Courage of Carly 5k kicked off Saturday activities before a group of alumni volleyball players battled the current team.
The tailgate lots outside of Pioneer Stadium were hopping with activities. The annual car show, basket raffle, and brunch tailgate were well attended while the sounds of the Dirt Turtles filled the valley. Visitors got to enjoy making noisemakers in the mobile learning lab and had the opportunity to spin for prizes with corporate partners ServU Credit Union and Wegmans.
The action moved inside Pioneer Stadium as the football team battled Utica. Alfred Voices performed the National Anthem, AIMS Self Storage was honored during the coin toss, and fans enjoyed an ice cream treat from Perry’s Ice Cream in between the 1st and 2nd quarters.
Late afternoon activities included baseball and lacrosse alumni battling the current team, a pickleball tournament, and Family Feud. Homecoming Dinner at the Terrace with Bingo for prizes concluded the evening.
Families were able to enjoy brunch in CDH on Sunday or explore the Alfred Farmer’s Market.
Lewis added, “We are so thankful that so many families and friends joined us. The Homecoming Family Weekend committee works most of the year planning for this event it is rewarding to see so many smiling faces enjoying being on campus.”
