More than 900 students from Region I BOCES (Board of Cooperative Education and Services) districts encompassing Western New York and the Southern Tier, competed in the 21st annual SkillsUSA-Region I Leadership Conference and Skills Olympics, (formerly VICA--Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) held in March at Alfred State College. Students Attend Hard Hat Expo

While there, three Alfred State representatives competed in the annual Skid Steer Rodeo held onsite. The rodeo is a skills competition which tests an individual’s ability as he/she operates through an obstacle course with agility, accuracy and the best time, in this case, operating a skid steer, so named because of its means of locomotion.
