SUNY Reconnect at Alfred State is a free college opportunity for eligible adult learners in New York who want to start or continue their education while preparing for careers in high-demand fields. Students can study part-time or full-time through career-focused associate degree programs in areas such as healthcare, advanced manufacturing, technology, engineering, and skilled trades. Alfred State provides the hands-on education and support adults need to move forward, whether they are starting college for the first time, finishing a degree, changing careers, or looking for new opportunities.
What Free Means?
The SUNY Reconnect program covers the cost of tuition, fees, books, and supplies after all other need-based grants and scholarships are applied. It does not cover housing.

Who is Eligible for SUNY Reconnect?
Eligibility
In order to be eligible, you must:
- Be 25-55 with no prior college degree
- Be eligible for in-state tuition, as determined by campus policies.
- Complete the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) or NYS Dream Act and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Attend full-time or part-time in participating program
- Take a minimum of 6 credits per semester
- Complete your degree within 10 semesters
*You must be at least 25 years old at the time of enrollment (start of classes, including late-start sessions) and no older than 55 years old on January 1 of the year in which you enroll.
