The opportunity to continue to play volleyball and to explore her passion for creativity and design led Nayomie Ferrer (San Juan, Puerto Rico) to Alfred State and the architectural technology program.

“I have always been interested of how creativity and design can become architecture and how architecture can shape community. Creating that foundation of creativity and technical skill was very important.”
Nayomie feels that the guidance that she receives from her professors is delivering the education she wanted.
“They (professors) help you to go through it (the program). Then you use what you learn in the real world. You try to apply because every project is different. Every project is going to have different requirements. They teach you the steps that you have to take so you can implement them in different type of projects.”
Playing four years on the volleyball team has helped Nayomie build her skills not only on the court but in the classroom. “Being a student-athlete has some advantage. It helps you build skills that some other people don't have, especially when we're talking about time management and problem solving.”
Alfred State has set Nayomie out to design a great career.
