Six Alfred State students recently received scholarships from the American General Contractors (AGC). $25,000 in scholarships were awarded as the AGC of NY celebrates their 100th anniversary.

Six Alfred State College (ASC) students received scholarships from the American General Contractors (AGC) of New York. The $25,000 in scholarships given to ASC students were the most of any college in NY and included the single largest scholarship given by the association since the program began in 1988.

The American General Contractors of New York State is the leading voice of the building and heavy highway construction industry, representing contractors and related companies dedicated to the ideals of skill, integrity and responsibility. In 2026, AGC NYS is celebrating 100 years of delivering a variety of services and programs effectively organized to truly protect the interests of our members.

Brody Baubie (Bergen, NY) received a $10,000 AGC NYS Centennial Scholarship. “To receive this scholarship feels great. It shows that my hard work is paying off and that other people are seeing that. I just want to say thanks to everyone involved in the selection process. It is a real blessing, and I thank you for investing in my education and I hope that you continue to invest in more people's education.”

Christopher Bergman (Akron, NY), Robert Struble (Endicott, NY), Alexander Grohman (Buffalo, NY), Jaelyn Benjamin-Wilson (Allegany, NY), and Jameson Martin (Clifton Springs, NY), all received $3,000 scholarships.

Brendan Manning, Vice President of Education and Environment at the American General Contractors New York State, Gary Hill, ’77, President of Union Concrete, and Christine Joyce, President of Certified Safety Products, presented the awards to the students.

“The AGC NYS is happy to present six scholarships to the students at Alfred State,” commented Manning. “Alfred State is one of the best construction colleges in the State of New York and continues to produce some of the best construction project managers our members employ.”

Civil Engineering Professor Erin Vitale is thankful for the relationship built between Alfred State, Manning, and AGC “Brendan has worked tirelessly as an advocate and liaison. He has annually organized these scholarship opportunities for students. He disseminates individual student resumes to member contractors, and I can't tell you the number of students he has gotten interviews for summer internships or full-time positions.”

Alfred State sponsors an AGC student chapter. The club provides opportunities for students to learn from industry leaders, gain real-world experience through site tours and networking, and develop skills like leadership, project management, and public speaking.
