Matt Lawrence, Alfred State’s Interim Dean of the School of Architecture, Management & Engineering Technology, was honored by Congressman Nick Langworthy as an America 250 Community Hero. Lawrence was honored with dozens others that embody America’s founding ideals through service, sacrifice, leadership, and love of community.
Lawrence was nominated in the category of education by members of the Mechanical Engineering Technology Industry Advisory Board.
Lawrence has taught at Alfred State since 2007 and has taught a wide range of classes from Introduction to Mechanical Engineering Technology and Manufacturing Processes to upper-level classes like Energy Systems and Design of Machine Elements.
He was a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2019 and has also received the Alfred State Innovation Award. He has previously served as a department chair and a curriculum coordinator.
Langworthy recognized individuals serving in a variety of areas that included education, healthcare, veterans and military service, first responders, coaching and mentoring, volunteerism and nonprofit leadership, and civic and community service.
Each honoree was called to the stage to receive a special commemorative medal and recognition for their service.
Langworthy serves the 23rd District of New Yor which covers Western New York and the Southern Tier. He held similar events in different counties across his district.
