The Alfred State College cross country team remained in the top five of the latest NJCAA Division III poll.  The women's team remained ranked #3 while the men moved up and are tied for #3.  Both teams had solid performances at the Houghton College Invitational last weekend.

The Alfred State College cross country team remained in the top five of the latest NJCAA Division III poll.  The women's team remained ranked #3 while the men moved up and are tied for #3.  Both teams had solid performances at the Houghton College Invitational last weekend.

John Sweeney (Barker) finished 11th at Houghton to lead the men's squad.  He ran the 5-mile race in 27:40.6.  Sweeney and the Pioneers finished as the top NJCAA team in the meet and 3rd overall out of eight complete teams (mostly NCAA Division III).

Ashley Fung (Greenwich) raced to a 12th place finish on the women's side with a time of 20:04.5.  The Lady Pioneers finished 7th as a team.

Other region III teams in the men's poll include: #1 SUNY Delhi, #2 Mohawk Valley CC, #5 Broome CC, and #10 Finger Lakes CC.

The cross country team will have a chance to see where they stand nationally this weekend as many of the top teams in the poll will be competing at the CC or Rhode Island this weekend.  The meet will be a tune-up as the NJCAA Division III National Championships will be held at CCRI on November 8.
